With the increasing number of shopping apps and websites, more and more people are becoming victims of impulse buying.

Let us understand what is impulsive shopping. It is a state when a person keeps on buying random and unnecessary things when they are triggered by their emotions. Basically making an unplanned purchase.

Why impulsive Shopping / Buying is bad?

Well, this kind of shopping may give you temporary happiness in the beginning but is of no value in the long run. They will add extra expense to your monthly budget and reduce your saving capacity.

For example, you are just bored and that’s so you are scrolling to some app. You find a really cute top but it is not available in your size. You tell yourself that you will lose it and you will see it at this stop and you by the top. In reality, everyone knows you will never wear that top, neither it will fit you. You wasted your money and your most precious time.

Have a proper budget. Write down how much you would spend on every item such as groceries, electricity, traveling, bills, other expenses, etc.

Now that you have a budget, try to fit in this. Whenever you feel like buying something that you don’t need, before making the payment think twice about the budget.

This will help you to cut down your extra and unnecessary expenses and also help to control on impulse buying.

2. Delete apps

The foremost important reason behind impulse buying is the shopping apps and websites. Uninstall those apps from your phone. When you won’t have those apps, you will try to find other ways to overcome your boredom, ditching the unnecessary shipping. This is how psychology works! Well, you won’t see those apps on your phone They won’t trigger your emotion hence you won’t buy random things.

Most of the time when shopping we tend to go for the credit option. Try to use your credit card as low as possible. When you make purchases using a credit card most of the time you end up buying necessary things. This is how our psychology works. Since we can always beyond with credit cards we end up buying things that we actually don’t need. That’s what to stop your impulse buying behavior You need to stop using your credit card all the time. Using credit cards all the time can make you a victim of a debt trap.

4. Fooling discounts

Most of the time we get tempted with the word discount or sale. According to us, discount means we are getting the things at a lower price compared to the usual price. Well, this is how companies play with us. Let us understand this with an example. You saw a bag that costs $20. You liked it and waited for a discount. After 4months you bought the same at a discount of 25%, by paying $20. Since the brand was in the sale, you bought 2 other bags. In this way, the brand made a profit of a total of 3 bags instead of 1, and you made a purchase falling for those foolish discounts!

5. Avoid the temptation

Try to avoid temptations as much as you can. Self-control is the biggest achievement one can ever gain in life. Remove everyday distractions from your reach, try to avoid provoking advertisements, get a hobby, and concentrate on it to control yourself. One of the best ways for self-controlling your mind through meditation. In this way, you can control yourself and can stay away from temptations.

6. Ask before paying

Before making an appointment or purchasing anything ask yourself, do you really need this product? or is there any alternative available at home you can use instead of buying this product? Or is this product worth the price? Yourself again and again and if you still get an answer every time, then only make the payment and make a purchase for the product.

Many times when we feel bored, or have nothing to do, what we do the most is to go through the shopping apps. You must start thinking you won’t purchase anything you just have an eye over the apps, which companies are giving discounts what are the new launch products etc, But you make end up buying one or two products. Or even if you don’t make a purchase at this you will add a few products to your cart and you will buy them later anyway.  Therefore if you want to stop your impulsive buying habit You need to break up with the shopping apps. When you get bored, You do anything You can even sleep but don’t go through shopping apps just to pass time.

8. Get hobbies

Another way to pass time other than going through shopping apps is to practice some hobby. Get yourself a hobby, a work that you love the most. And keep yourself busy in that particular thing. It will help you to get rid of your phone and scrolling through shopping apps and necessarily, stop you from purchasing randoms.

9. Go for self-made

Before purchasing anything check out if you can make a replacement of it by using the things available with you. For example, let us assume you loved a vase and want the same. And you have a container in your home that looks very similar to that vase. You can decorate that container according to your choice and create a similar vase of your own. This is how you are saving money and creating something yourself. This is how you can go for self-made things instead of buying them.

10. Don’t hang out in malls

Sometimes to pass time with our friends we go to malls to hang out with them. As usual in malls we see different kinds of shops and end up buying things that we made won’t require. So instead of hanging out in malls, you can opt for parks cafes restaurants or any other place to meet your friends and to have a good time.
