Curriculum Vitae is the most important part during the process of getting a job. Most of the companies make a call for an interview after going through the CV only. If your CV does not stand out in the first step, you are already eliminated from the other rounds! Sad aah!
A CV needs to be strong and bold, reflecting your personality so that it can shine out in the crowd. It should not be too long. Keep it short and to the point. If you too don’t know how to write a Cv, then today’s article is for you. Today we will be sharing with you how to create a CV for a fresher as well as an experienced person.
Note: There is no certified way of writing a resume, so you may tweak your resume the way you want.
1. Start Strong
You can use any CV structure of your choice. Start with your name and add up adjectives about yourself. Add heavy words or phrases that would define you professionally, like – problem solver, mentor, quick learner, firefighter, innovator, etc. make sure you support whatever you write throughout your CV. Even if you are a fresher, you can still add these titles as they will reflect your personality.
2. Mention Right Contacts Details
Mention your contacts very clearly. Your email id, contact number, you can add your social media handles too. Make sure your email id is a professional one. For example, if you put your mail id as “hearthacker123@gmail.com”, it looks extremely unprofessional. Use a decent mail id with your proper name. Make changes according to the post you are applying for. You can also add your skype id, just in case someone from overseas wants to contact you. If you are a fresher, keep in mind, your marital status, religion, family background, etc all this does not matter in a CV. Don’t add all this extra information as it will create a crowdy look in your CV.
3. Mention Experiences
While mentioning your experiences, you should mention your current job fast and then go back in a reverse chronological order. That is, you need to mention your last job first and go back word to first job at the last of the line. Write down name of the company, your job role there, and then mention the time period you held that particular role. Under each section, you can also mention your responsibilities.
Now, if you are a fresher and does not have much experience, then not to worry. You can add up any kind of voluntary work you did in your high school or college days. For example: if you have managed any event in college, or were captain of any time, any part-time jobs you did, if you took tuitions, worked with any NGO, you can add up them under your experience section. This will make the recruiter think you are determined and keen to learn new things.
4. Education & Qualification
Now here come your qualifications. As you are an experienced candidate, the recruiter won’t pay much attention to your this side, but that does not mean this heading is fully useless. Mention your schoolings in reverse chronological order as well. That is, the last institution you attended should be at the top and then one after one. Along with the name of the institution, mention the degree and the % of marks you scored. An experienced person should you should put the education heading after the experience heading. But as a fresher, as you won’t have much experience, you must put the education heading before. Our education and qualification should be just after your name.

5. Hobbies & Interest
After that, you can write down your hobbies and interests. This should be according to one’s own taste, but again, make hobbies you are writing suit the job profile. If not, then you can write any hobbies, but make sure they are creative. Don’t write things like I love eating or sleeping or scrolling through my phone. Instead, you can go with reading, writing, playing chess, cooking, gardening, etc. this will make your profile look good.
6. Mention Achievements
At this part, you should flex all your achievements. If you are a fresher, you can write about all achievements in school days or college days or achievements in voluntary work. If you are an experienced, you can definitely flex about achievements in your past organizations. For example, if you have received the student of the year/employee of the year awards or even if you have participated in any kind of social activity for which certificates were given, you can write about them in this section.
7. Other Information
This can be the concluding part in your CV, where you will write the other information which may add up to your CV. If you don’t have anything else to write, then don’t worry, you can totally skip this section. As the name suggests, the interviewer will search for “other” information only, so don’t rewrite anything. You can add here the languages you know or any other special qualities you have. For example, you may write “ Fluent in HINDI ENGLISH and MARATHI; knows MS, can play violin”, etc.
Bonus Tips
- Check out fonts. Choose clear, legible fonts. Use standard fonts such as Ariel. Keep the font size 11 to 12 pt and for names or headings, you may use by maximum 14 pt. Use single spacing only.
- Don’t use any kind of graphics or page layouts. The white space is your friend. Keep the CV in black and white only.
- don’t add your photos in your CV unless asked by the company.
- Keep the CV brief. Many people think adding 4 to 5 pages will make the CV look more approaching. But this is a wrong concept. Along with you 100s of candidates will apply for the same post. As a result, the recruiter will spend only a few seconds in each CV to shortlist. If you add so many unnecessary pages, you will be eliminated here only. Keep information exactly to the point.
